Headed out yesterday with @helibase in search of some jacks and whatever else would take our lures. Sadly no jacks. Biggest tease ever was a hard fast hit on my CK50. After a lot of drag pulling (tight drag as well), close moments getting pulled into boats and under pontoons you can imagine my disappointment to see a bloody fork tail catfish surface. I cannot criticize the fight but I was in that zone where I thought "no matter what this is it is a good fish"... Oh well. To add to the dissapointment my leader was well slimed

Consolation prize was a decent bream on a popper which gave a good account for itself and hey, it is always fun on the surface.

Looks like a solid bream Angus, just a shame the cattie wasn't the jack you were after. I'll buzz you next weekend and arrange to swap that rod.

Theres a jack in there somewhere, you will get it. I kinda want to catch a catty one day cos I hear they go hard.

ive had many a run in with catties thinking they were a jack due to the weight of the fish and initial big hit out of a snag...

rather catties than no fish at all!

I have been getting into a bit of topwater down the Gold Coast canals lately. Still no jacks but got a few bream, big eye trevally and a little GT so far. The trevally hit hard but it makes me laugh how the bream come up and "kiss" the lure with their little popping sound suck on the surface.
