Surveys at boat ramps aim to capture rec fishing data.

The fishery monitoring team is rolling out a statewide program to collect important regional information about recreational fishing.

Trained interviewers will be on site at boat ramps from the Gold Coast to Cairns and the Gulf of Carpentaria, asking recreational fishers about their fishing trips and identifying and measuring more than 30 species of fish.

The interviews usually go for three to five minutes, making it quick and easy for fishers to take part.

Previous boat ramp surveys have been well received with more than 90% of fishers contributing data to the program.

The information collected will be used to monitor recreational fishing to ensure that it remains sustainable now and into the future.

The monitoring program will be rolled out progressively and be fully operational by June 2017.

Iv been asked these questions and had my catch measured a couple of times over the years if you don't want to help you don't have to it's not compolsury unless you have something to hide but up to you . Matt

nothing to hide what so ever....

qld fisheries tell us there are 750,000+ qlders who enjoy rec fishing each year.. now if their results show the average fish taken by fisho`s in the survey is 8-10 fish per trip, multiply that with 750,000 fisho`s, then you have a lot of fish being dragged out of the fishery.... just because 4 fifths of that number are mums and dads taking kids fishing once or twice a year during the holidays and they catch 'B' all fish that`s besides the point. Then on those figures the rabid greens will want more areas locked up. This could also be a rec  fisho`s negative for net free areas in years to come.

But you are correct, if you have nothing to hide tell it all the rabid greens will thank you as they demand more lock outs with this scientific approach, it`s all in the data
