Hi all,

Yesterday morning I rode my bike to a local spot to try my luck for some fish. I was there by 5:30AM, and two people were already there fishing. They'd had no luck, and hadn't caught many livies after. Luckily, after I setup a few rods with dead prawn, I managed to get some decent livebaits - enough to start fishing. 

After pulling in two catties things were looking ultra quiet, with hardly any bites on my livebaits. I kept using some dead prawns too, but these brought me no luck. At about 7:30AM, the others fishing left, so I had the spot all to myself. It was pretty relaxing, and after having some more success with the bait I decided I would stop cast netting for the morning. 

As the tide continued to rise, I was hoping for a threadfin, but I was only rewarded with two snags in a hole that is out the front from the spot. This was pretty disappointing, but from the way everything was going it didn't look like a fishy morning. I had to be home by 11AM, so once it was about 9:50 I started packing up. It was almost tide change, and I still hadn't gotten any bites on live mullet or bony bream. 

Overall, it was a quiet morning but nice to get out of the house to go for a flick. Hopefully next weekend I'll be more successful. 

Stats:

Tide: 4:00AM, .2M, Low, 10:10PM, 2M, High. 

Moon Phase: About 1%, New Moon. 

Air Pressure: 1012

Humidity: 60%

Fish Caught: Couple of catfish. 

Tackle Used: Shimano Stradic on Shimano Raider, Shimano Symetre on Sentire Rod, Shimano Baitrunner on Kmart Rod, Okuma Coronado CDX on Silstar Crystal Powertip Rod. 15, 20 and 30 pound braid mainlines. 50 pound traces, size 3 snapper sinkers, 4/o and 6/o circle hooks, small barrel swivels. 

Overall Success Rate: 25%, nice to get out of the house.

You know what Hamish, it was quiet, but you got do something that only fishermen can do. Enjoy that moment in a space that only fishermen can!

A couple of years ago, Margie and I were checking out properties in Buxton (near Burrum Heads) and spent an afternoon on the Buxton Jetty on the last of the runout tide.
We caught nothing but saltwater catties, hand over fist, and they were mutilating all my soft plastics, but you know what, it was a glorious session on light gear and we loved every moment!

Salmon tail cats aren't the most popular fish to catch in the BR, but you know what, bull sharks love them almost as much as eels.

I think it sounds like you had a slightly quiet but pleasant morning on the BR.

You are quite skilled and an articulate and a valuable contributor who  consistently adds a great deal of value to this forum.
I always enjoy your posts and know there will always be more coming!

You certainly put in the effort Hamish .

Change of season fishing is always a bit tough .

Keep at it , that PB Thready or Jew is just around the corner!
