EVANS HEADS 9-10 APRIL

Just thought i would share my trip from the weekend.

After receiving the day off on friday for 'product knowlege' at the tinnie and tackle show and spending all my money i headed off to dads to head down to evans head nsw for a weekend of fishing.

After getting up to do so repairs to dads boat early on saturday morning we headed out with only plastics in tow. Threw them around for a few hours only boating red rock cod and a silver trevally. and well dad needs to be reminded that the essence of reef fishing isnt to catch the reef, but to actually catch fish  Spent most of hte arvo chasing clean water as the water was really dirty down there, to the extent that you could see the particals in the water, it was like thick coral sporn or something similar.

Sunday had to be a better day,

We awoke at 5.30am and headed out threw a lovely breaking evans heads bar and headed south. Again we where faced with similar dirty water, conitinued to push threw it (with bait) with mainly red rock cod again, mind you getting annoyed with them at this stage, should of just kept them all as they are really tasty, just a pain to clean. eventually we moved spots from reccommendations from my step brother the night before, so headed to a mark we had saved as 'north' reef. We got there and contiuned to bottom bounce only getting small squire and a few other associated reef fish. Had a live yakka out hte whole time and got smoked, bitten threw on 120lb leader, so the idea was to switch to wire. We watched a few of the other boats around us start to get a few spottys, some of quite decent size and seen a big spanish landed by a pro, so the idea was to bait and burley. Unfortuantly due to my sour taste from being bitten off earlier i was running wire on my livie and pilchards and wasnt having much luck so after watching every single other boat get onto some mackeral the call was to switch my pillie to mono leader.

Within 1 min, no more i was onto a very solid spotty that looked to be around the metre mark. He gave me heaps of curry on my lightish gear, and after having him muck around under the boat i pulled the hooks on him, devisated after such a quiet weekend to say the least. within a few mins i was on again pulling in a very healthy 94cm spotty, they continued to hang under the boat but could not stop them biting me off so only ended up with the one, better than nothing i guess. THere where tons of them there, could see them swimming under the boat fighting over anything you threw into the water, providing it didnt have wire in it =(

Sorry for the story, hope someone enjoyed the read. Heres the pic of my spotty too. sorry no brag or lie detector pic either, it was all packed up as we where in a rush to clean it up and head home.
