Live shark baits tangling lines!!!!!!

Hi guys,

Last time I threw out a live mullet (12 inch+) it tangled hell out of my line.

I used a 90lb wire trace, 100lb mono leader and 30Lb

braid. I fished the bottom cause the wind was too strong to put a balloon out.

Is there anyway to stop these monster tangles???

I'm assuming you're landbased?

And using a sinker?

How are the tangles forming?:S only way I can see is if you don't use a sinker?

i dock their tails to limit the thrust , they get tangled when the sinker is on the bottom and they keep swimming in circles, its a problem with the big boney bream aswell , just dont let any slack in your line , and take a pair of scissors to trim the tail fin back, i know it sounds cruel but no were near as much damage as what the bullies do to them ! dont cut the tail off just enough of the fin to slow them up a bit.

Yep land based and using a heavy sinker. Will try again wihout the sinker and less slack in the line.

As for cutting the tail fin, is it OK just to cut one of the tail fins (just in case the bait is going to be released if I get no hits)?

no bait is wasted , i keep all my left over baits for crab bait, i fillet the big mullet for strip bait and use the frames in the pots!!
