camping around gold coast/ tweed

Mate goto Big 4 Caravan Park. They have a salt water tidal pond which has got some impressive species in it. We stayed there when we fished the Tweed A.B.T. and will probably stay there again to get into a few more Tarpon. There's also been Jacks and good Bream caught out of there.

It's teaming with small Poddy Mullet so there's no wonder there's a healthy population of fish in there. Also I'd say live Poddy Mullet would probably be the best bait. There's Tarpon swirls every minute after the sun goes down. Use a Smith's Towadi surface lure for the Tarpon or small popper making the smallest surface ripples to catch them. Don't know about sub surface lures, didn't use them but I'd guess 3 inch Power Minnows.

If you catch anything release it since it's taken a lot of time for good quality fish to get in there. The only way they could have gotten in there is through the small pipe letting water in and out of the pond and grown up from fingerlings. They are too big to get out now so releasing is the best option.

Awesome work Blue Mako, thanks. Sounds great, chasing a few tarpon while relaxing, sneaking out on the river for a bit more serious action.

Read your thread on the ABT tournament, congratulations on the awesome day.

Any tips on fishing the river, spose the bream are a bit quieter at this time of year.
