I got a 8030, fantastic reel, so light good price aswell.

These are great reels. Boydy has two and even the smaller ones hold up to Tuna.

Bretto sorry for my ignorance on supreme sizings, but what is it comparable to in Daiwa and Shimano??

For example 2000, 2500?

From my experience 8030 is about a 2000/2500 so id say a 8040 would be around a 3000 or small 4000?

About a 3500 hundred mate. Good for snapper and flicking slugs at tuna

does the mg = magnesium = salt water un-friendly?

might be interested as i could use a good spinning reel in that size for exactly what you mentioned (snapper and throwing slugs at tuna)

Yeah mate the mg is magnesium. I use my 8030 solely in the salt out of my yak which can be hard on tackle and it hasn't had any issues. I just give a rinse after every trip.

Yeah Boydy uses his offshore and it cops heaps of spray. Just washing it off has ensured no issues to date.
