Mobile boat repairs

I've found a guy who does mobile boat repairs, specialises in glass boats, soft floors and transom work. Got him giving me a quote on Saturday, I'll post after and let you know my thoughts. Spoke to the guy on the phone for quite a while the other day, seems pretty cluey, carries out a whole bunch of tests as part of the free quote. Hopefully be able to get the Jolly Roger back on the water in time for the Meet'n'Greet!:woohoo:

Apologies for the late post - such good new I went on a bit of a bender and I'm only just sober enough to type now:lol: ! So the guy turns up on Saturday and starts having a look around the boat while I'm nervously sucking down ciggies and getting ready to pass out from what I'm sure is gonna be bad news:( . After about half an hour he heads my way (I'd been kinda hanging back as I figured, y'know, give the man some space. By now I'm really crapping myself as he's got a bit of a grim look on his face, and he tells me I'd better sit down:sick: .

He then proceeds to detail some of the stuff he needs to do to the transom like replacing a bit of this and taking all these other bits out and resealing them before he puts them back, replacing some 'glass sections, checking out the engine mounts and replacing the stiffener, blah blah blah...by the time he got to the end I was just about catatonic! Then he tells me the price (in really funereal tones, like it was going to be the worst thing I'd heard in ages)...wait for it...$350. Yep, $350. He's even picking it up tomorrow and returning it when the work's done:woohoo: ! Sent him on his way with a 6-pack for coming out to give me a quote on Saturday, all in all pretty happy & very impressed...next post after I get her back to let you know how the job looks!

Cliffy , sorry to hear she still has a water problem :(

Can you put water in her with bungs in and see if it comes out any where while its on trailer ??

Have done this with the tinnys , then marked where cracks were and them welded.Maybe worth a try.

Thanks for the tips guys, Lozzel - tried the water test to no avail; Brian - have just replaced the bung rubbers on all 5 prior to saturday. Gonna get Jim the boat repairer to run a full compressed air test on the bottom float chamber as I suspect there's something very small causing the problem, and only when she's in the water putting the whole (hole, haha) system under pressure. At this point I'm thinking p'raps a smallish hairline crack, as both Jim & I have checked out the entire hull and nothing visual. Even so, I think the major problem was in the transom, as she still shipped maybe 40-50 litres of water as opposed to the hundreds she was carrying before the repair. Also none of the handling issues were present that were there before (i.e. sluggish off the mark, hard to get up on the plane due to the extra weight she was carrying, and the fact that most of it was sitting aft). Keep ya posted!
