FreshWater Lure Advice, Please.

This will be my first foray into freshwater fishing (Somerset Dam). Do I use HBs or SPs? HB popper or divers? If SPs, what weight/hook jighead? Will 4lb braid/6lb leader be man enough? What are your top 5 lures for Bass. Prefer down market ideas as I have a propensity to find snags wherever I go........

m8 hard to go past spinnerbaits,you can use them in any depth of water ,they are very snag and weed resistant and most important bass love em,also plastics with a beatlespin rig work very well and are inexpensive and lastly blades ,again cheap and very affective on bass.

4lb main and 6lb leader will be good enough if you are fishing deep and away from structure but on the banks and around snags i wouldnt go under 6-8lb main and 8-10lb leader.

Big W is a lower cost shopping destination for your lures. Spinnerbaits, kokoda lures and metal slugs will do. I'd suggest rigging up a dropshot and jig some earthworms if the fish are showing you no love. Good luck.

We should have a few shrimp coming from the pots kev, they should go alright on an unweighted rig... get some spinners and i got a few blades for ya to throw around

If you get really really desperate you can use an ice jig.

Spinner baits in green, blades and jackall's are the weapons of choice for most people.

4lb is a bit light, minimum of 6lb I would say.

Take a few divers if you are trolling as well.

what has been mention Kev, also for trolling especially deep, get some boomerangs 65mm - 80mm in 6m, 7m, 8m depths in deep purple, jabiru, zebra, black beetle or daly river gold. these always produce in wivenhoe and somerset
