Rings on Lures

Bought a Halco Deep Dive (sardine) lure yesterday for my trip out of Mooloolaba tomorrow, my plan was to put a wire on it that has been pre looped but when I went to fix it on I noticed the lure dosent have a split ring, just a ring attached to the bib by a embedded fixture. See Photo. Today I went out again and bought some split rings after reading that its best to replace with better quality ones My question is do I have to remove the Halco ring before putting on the new split ring or can I simply attach it to the ring already there?

Buy 2, troll 1 with, 1 without and see what happens, 1 may produce better movement but highly doubt it will make any diffrence, all i can think of is leaving it on is just another point of tackle failure

You Should not need to replace the rings on Halco lures, maybe on some of the bargin bin cheapies but if they are that cheap looking I don't buy them. I have never upgraded the hard ware on lures unless the hooks get rusty and have only lost the odd fish. But who wants odd fish any how lol

i think u'll find a split ring wont fit thru when the single ring is removed. and if it does, you wont get a good action outa the lure

You'll also probably find that that solid ring is stronger than most, if not all split rings.

Yes I think I'll have to learn how to make a wire leader and loop myself, the lure was about $22.00. I bought some wire last week but I think its too thick looking at these ready made ones, Thanks for the answers I;ll give it a try tomorrow

Get someone to show you how to twist up single strand at one of our meets.. ill put my hand up

id leave the solid ring on it nd just use a bit of single stand wire with a haywire twist..
