my dentist moved my wisdom teeth removal from 9am to 1pm :( so i hit up my old man for a trip out to the mouth.....he was in :) , so a bag of pillies, a mullet and a 5am pick up and we were on the water by 5.30 :cheer:

we hit the jetty near caltex for a quick flick, but no takers :( stopped off at the poop chute for a cast net but there was sweet diddly live bait around.....what to do......scooted over to the rock wall near the barge for a bit of a flick but couldn't raise any interest there either. moved right down towards the corner for a bit.....all for my old man to pull in one measly bream.....had a feeling i was going to pull a donut on a day that was already guaranteed to be painful....

i don't think being on the last of the outgoing really helped, but we decided to head round to the front of the rock wall to try our luck. we trolled the front for a few passes to no avail :( was really starting to get the irrates with not being able to get on to any fish.....the old man suggested a cruise out to mud since it wasn't looking too rough.....so to mud we went!

we drifted the southern end of mud for a while.....soaking pilchards while flicking plastics. it wasn't too long before the pike showed up and, given my lack of action all morning, i was happy to land half a dozen. while i was playing silly buggers with the resident vermin my rod buckled over and made that sweet singing sound we all adore!! a short fight and to the surface came....

unfortunately he barely cracked the 30cm mark.....why are the small ones always the angriest?? must be the adolescent age of flathead. shortly after my flathead, this little guy hit my bait, breathing a little hope into my morning that we might get onto some of the squire i've been frustrated reading about

all went quiet (you know it's an ordinary morning when even the pike stop biting) so we headed back to the river mouth, via the northern end of the island. the wind had picked up by that stage so needless to say, the ride back was a little uncomfortable....it was like being kicked in the bum and kidneys simultaneously.....this was the old man on the way out, so you can imagine how much worse it was heading back in....

we pulled up on the north eastern corner of the rock wall again to soak some more pilchards and see what we could rustle up now that the tide was running in. i lobbed out the pilchard before chucking on a bozos 5cm thing for a bit of a flick around.....first cast......

the old man decided to chuck on some ever faithful mullet strips and pulled up a few of these

before dropping the lot on my foot

when this grabbed his line

the only legal fish of the day (not including the pike)......dad's 44cm squire that took a mullet strip on his old favourite (and somewhat magical) rod.....simply called 'black'.

outfished by the old dog.

so 1pm came and i went to sleep for a bit in the dentist chair and came out minus 4 teeth plus whatever bone they had to cut out on all 4 of them.....and this has been me for the last 3 days......
