A couple of yellas

Headed out for a mornings fishing and picked up a couple of yellas for my troubles, one of which is now PB at 51.5cm.

It's always good to see a yellow or two, well done. That first one looks a bit thin then the second one looks nice and fat

poor old yella cops a bit of a bad wrap as a "sports fish", but on lures the big ones can give a good account of themselves and the first run or two are normally pretty impressive.

There are lots of yellas around some are quite white in colour, others very yellow, some are skinny and yet others are fat as. All living in the same water too, I wonder if the skinny ones are male and the heavy ones female or vice-versa, or just some are newly escaped and the others have been in the creek for a while?

Not so many anymore mate, the good old white bucket brigade has made sure of that, saw at least 18 there yesterday

and I reckon the bag limit on yellas is far too high.

10 yellas at a min of 30cm. no wonder the buckets are full.

Nice yella mate, congratulations on the PB.

Hey Rocket, I've always thought the big fat ones to be female and the skinny ones to be males. I've been told that it's very difficult to tell the sex of yellas without cutting them. I asked a hatchery operator once and he said a trained eye could tell the difference at certain times of the year. During spawning time I guess.

You are right Rocket they do get a bum rap the old yellas, I tell you what this one hit like freight train.

Brian, the first one was very thin in comparison... didn't look anywhere near as healthy.
