AUSTACKLE ABT Bribie Island Bream Qualifier

Anglers were faced with very challenging conditions as they set off at 7am Saturday morning for Day 1 of the comp. Winds were around 20 knots from the south which meant the northern end of the bay was really chopped up badly. Those anglers who ventured out to places like Redcliffe and Scarborough were rewarded with some fish whereas anglers who chose to stay inside Pummicestone Passage struggled to find legal size fish willing to bite.

Austackle angler Peter Cashman fished Scarborough Reef and at the end of Day was lying in 3rd place with a full bag of 5 fish weighing in at 2.76kgs. The leading angler at the end of Day 1 was Drew McGrath with 5 fish for 3.29kg with Tim ‘The Bream’ Morgan lying second with 5 fish for 3.24kg. Drew had found himself some clean water on the Friday pre-fish inside the Caloundra Bar and stuck to his spots all weekend. This proved to be a wise strategy.

Sunday presented anglers with a very different challenge. The winds dropped off and by about 10am the Redcliffe and Scarborough areas had glassed out and legal sized fish became very hard to find indeed. Plenty of doughnuts were scored on Sunday. Drew however produced another great bag of 5 fish from his Caloundra spots and ultimately was the clear winner with a total bag of 10 fish for 6.35kg. Second place went to Tim Morgan with 10 fish for 5.03kg.

Austackle angler Peter Cashman finished a very creditable 6th place with 8 fish for 3.95kg. Full results can be found at www.bream.com.au

The winning "Non-Boater was AFO member Shane Wolhuter (dragons7). He had a greta weekend weighing in 10 fish in total. Shane finally won himself a Takeda Fireblade Rod, after being pipped at the post in the recent King of Moreton Bay Bream event, and also won a host of other prizes. Shane had a dream draw for both Saturday and Sunday being paired with 2 of the best skippers/anglers in the country but he still had to catch the fish. Well done Shane it was a truly great effort with some awesome fish caught.

The Austackle “Big Bream†prize was won by Jonathon Thompson. Jon caught a 780g Bream using an Austackle Sakana SD40F lure in the Ghost Prawn colour. He won a great Takeda 1-3kg Fireblade for his effort.

It was a great weekend and the ABT guys are to be congratulated about the extremely professional way the tournament was organised and run. Our thanks go to Steve Morgan, Chris Byrne, and the rest of their team for their efforts. Austackle will definitely be back in 2012 as a major sponsor.

Top stuff Shane. Good on ya for winning a comp in tough conditions. I found a few fish on pre fish but had a shocker of a comp and ended up coming 20th in the boaters. The weather on saturday was very average. I was heading out to reddy then copped a few over the front which almost filled the cockpit so turned around n decided not to risk it.

Are you doing Goldie in august?
