Land based Whiting in the Broadwater

It was time to have a look for some more whiting off the shore in the Broadwater. I arrived at The Spit in the late afternoon and got a good whiting first cast. Perhaps the fish would be really on I thought to myself, but no. The first fish proved to be the best for the trip. I persisted at The Spit for a few hours and got a few more fish but quite a few toads, undersized crabs and a horde of undersized whiting. The Bogans that are usually are common in the area seemed absent but the empty cans of Woodstock Bourbon and coke suggested they may have been feeding there on the previous tide.

I decided to make a move to Marine Parade. Some undersized bogans were present with a goon bag, but they quickly moved on. A fish again first cast, but only the occasional whiting after that. No toads or crabs, but every second fish seemed to be a stingray and I managed a trifecta of stingray species.

About half the whiting were caught at The Spit and the other half along Marine Parade.

A good but not spectacular feed.

Daryl
