rig for threadfin

fish repellent

Recommended Posts

Lolly for threadfin = prawn

Prawn = top/ higher in the water collunm

therefore as your rig have an unweighted prawn or prawn with very little weight on a 3/0 - 6/0 hook. (This also depends on the size of the prawn).

Mullet and herring will also get you a thready

as for leader and mainline, probably a 15-20lb braid on a 20-30lb leader

something like that...

good luck

cheers

Any that I have caught have been close to the bottom. Prawns seem to work well. The size leader might depend on whether you are drifting or anchored in a boat, or fishing from the bank. They seem to have a habit of wrapping themselves around anchor ropes so go a bit heavier (30lb?)if you are anchored.

I think you should fish relatively heavy (20lb +) if you are targetting the bigger girls so that they release better. Just my opinion though. There have been some excellent articles on this forum in the past about how to fish for threadies and how to release them, with lots of discussion about whether they suffer barotrauma. I am too lazy to look for them for you, but the search function works pretty well.
