Noosa Report

Hi everyone,

This seems like a bit of a weekly occurrence! Here’s a bit of a fishing report from Noosa with heaps and heaps of pictures!!!

For the couple of days Tim and I fished, the Noosa River was firing! We focused our efforts on the Tewantin end of the river this week, and due to an abundance of prawns, prawn style lures were our choice! We used everything from Zereks to gladiator prawns and as long as it looked like a prawn, it seemed to work!

One of the most common fish we came across during our fishing trips were baby GT’s in the 35-50cm range which are epic fun on the light gear we were using. (Nordic stage sharpshooters and 1000 Shimano) This particular one Tim caught was a class above the rest and gave us some serious curry!

On the subject of trevally, this little fella was a welcome surprise and could have pulled any of the other GT’s backwards! These little trevs are called “Cale Cales†and are often seen smashing the surface like tuna, but not touching any lure you throw at them! It seems when you’re not targeting them, they find you!

The main fish we targeted during the trips was school jewfish, and we did end up catching quite a few! The trick to catching these little guys was allowing your lure to sit on the bottom motionless for a few seconds before flicking your rod tip again. We found most hits were either on the drop or just sitting on the bottom.

One thing that heavily affected out fishing was the tide. The water up this far in the river is normally pretty dirty, and when the big high tides came through, it really triggered the fish to bite!

My most rewarding capture for the whole trip was this solid grunter bream which fell to the ever reliable ecogear zx40 in the dirty water. With only one of the little assist hooks just pinned through the lip, it was pretty touch and go, but the extra length and softness of the rod cushioned the lunges perfectly.

Lastly, I took one of my co-workers from Davo’s out for a quick shark fish of the beach and after a brief tussle we landed this cute little bully on a whole tailor! Was great to see the young fella hooked up on my 18000 Stella haha
