Gear Ratios

Hi guys, Im wondering how gear ratios are measured. Eg. A Baitcast reel 6:2:1 How many times would the spool spin with one handle wind? How do you tell a slow retrieve?

I know this sounds nooby but i want to be able to spin the handle at a slowish speed but have a slow spool spin if you know what i mean. So how do you read a Gear Ratio and what would be a slow retreive?

Handle cranks (1): Spool turns (x)

So 6.2/1

would be 6.2 spool turns to 1 wind of the handle;)

you have also got to remember that the spool size and the amount of line on the spool will also affect the speed you retrieve. The less line on your reel will make the spool diameter smaller making your retriee rate lower

no 6:2 isnt real slow but depends on how big your spool is and 6:2 is average for most small reels and that would be a real good fast retreve for big reels but no matter what yor retreve is u can make it fast or slow depending on how fast u turn your handle

Yeah but i get bored lol. Turnin a reel slow is BORING and i wanna be able to turn the handle at a moderate pace but still have a slow retreive. Does anyone no a good Baitcaster for around 150 that has a super slow retrieve?

u should prob look at the more old models then i think cause the brands try to get retrevel speed up higher
