Need advice for catching jewies/threadfin

I'll be going fishing tonight with some mates around the brisbane river (land based) and as the tittle suggests we are aiming to catch either a jewie or threadfin.

if anyone could some provide advice on how to catch them or how they "fight" or even which tide (in coming / out going ) i should fish that would be helpful.
