Yesterday, I spent the afternoon chasing a few sooty grunter in the freshwater reaches of the Pioneer River in my kayak. I am yet to find a more relaxing way to spend a few hours than gracefully kayaking around the many pools and expanses of riffle habitat in my little “glideâ€, and casting at likely sooty haunts.

We only ended up with 3 little sootys in total but there will be plenty more around in the upcoming weeks as the water quickly warms up.
