Pflueger Patriarch

I bought a Pflueger Patriarch size 30 spinning reel, online, it arrived today. I didn't realise until I unwrapped it, but it doesn't have an anti-reverse lever?! (the little switch to allow the reel/handle to spin backwards) I've never seen this on any other spinning reel - I thought they all had one? Even all the cheap and nasty reels I've seen have an anti-reverse lever.

Has anyone else used a reel like this without one? If so, how do you find it? Is it better or worse? Should I try to swap it? I do use it quite often on my other reels - e.g. to manage the line if I get a snag, to lower the lure to get weed off or clip it to the guide/hook, to let out more line once I've landing a fish etc...

some reels have no reverse to assist with reducing water ingress. Less opening = less water into reel = less corrosion issues

 

Not sure if the reel you have falls into this category

Can't say I have ever used the reverse lever on any of my reels. I just flick the bail over to let line out.

one great thing about having no anti-reverse switch, no 'effen' spring to go twing and disappear when cleaning and de/regreasing inslde the reel

I wouldn't be worried Steve.

They're always in the locked position in my reels and I have never needed (or wanted) to wind backwards.

Consider it one less thing to go wrong.

I occasionally wind backwards when I am looking to have my rig at a set depth, question was more about whether it had an effective drag or not.
