I want to start doing some landbased squid fishing in frankston area, if you know of any spots that produce please let us know

Have you tried the Pier? A mate does quite well there. He uses one of the wire lures that you shove through a pilly under a float.

Ive tried the pier once or twice but never with a pillie under a float. ill give that a try cheers @Drop Bear

Try any of the piers,  Modialloc to Sorento, they used to produce 30 yrs ago, so should still produce. Check out the local tackle/bait shops buy a cheap lure, packet of hooks etc and they should be full of info for you.

Other spots are Mt Eliza, Davies bay jetty and Canadian Bay, Mount Matha off the rocks, Oliver’s hill off the rocks, Mornington pier.  Caught them at all these spots.

Do you remember what colour jig you used at olivers hill rocks? I used an orange one yesterday with no luck @Luvit

It differs on different days. If early or late afternoon I would use a brown jig. The best colours during the day orange and pink. A size 2.5 with light line should allow a decent cast but from shore but you can lose jigs fairly easily. I use to flick them out and keep moving 50m or so before fanning casts again. Once you find them you usually get a few. The other renowned piers are Flinders, Sorrento and Portsea for the big squid.
