Bream/Jack fishing with Poppers?

Dad just smsd me. He got a Bream on a Popper today. His first so pretty happy I guess.

faulked and me compared sx40 and luckycraft staysee 60sp once when we couldn't catch a fish.

we found a used tyre in the water( very close, 1m from the bank). then he ran his sx40 on the tyre and i did the same with my staysee. the staysee dives deeper and harder so it should get snagged easily.

he tried 10 times and hooked it 8 out of 10. i did 20 times and hooked it 0 out of 20...

Maybe because of the dive? The bib hits instead of the hooks and then the back of the lure floats higher than the bib away from the snag?

I need a swimming pool to test lures in. I wounder if the sports centre up the road will let me catch thier swimmers:P Very interesting Kev.

u r perfectly right. some deep divers r designed this way to avoid loss. megabass griffon, lucky craft staysee, megabass deep-X and loads of other nice lures hit the snag with bib and then swim sideways to avoid hooking it.

Thats how I do it too, seems to work on skitish fish like bream..

you might need some better trebles then. I too make my own surface lures but the hooks alone are nearly $1 each (chem sharpened)
