KCF Rally last weekend

Mat Van Tunen has posted up the in car footage from one of the stages at the KCF Rally on the weekend.

This was Mat's first run in the ex works WRX, he was fairly off the pace all day, coming 2nd a fair way behind the Evo6 Lancer. (but still well ahead of the rest of the pack!)

Whilst he can drive very well, the video shows what is in my opinion killing rally, the car was probably doing close to 180kph in places on rough dirt roads, and its like a slot car, not exciting to watch at all!

Thats why I like to watch the old escorts and Datsuns, half the speed, 10 times the show!

Nah mate, for an Evo I'd just take off the front tail shaft

For a WRX, yeah, I'd take the dato!

Just watched it seems very tame without the road and engine noise.

Mats old man used to run an old gt escort with a cosworth engine.( I think its over 40 years ago) He had a few not kosher mods such as stryene foam in the sills and the front struts reinforced with water pipe rammed up inside them .It was a shoestring effort . He had sponsorship from Capalaba wrecking and he used to syphon petrol from the wrecks and strain it through a chamois. I went for a ride with him once never again you need nerves of steel to be a navigator.
