wanting to build enclosure for sounder

anyone know how to build a fibreglass box only, can i build the box out of timber then coat the box in fibreglass then discard the timer as if im using the timber as a mould.

the box needs to be waterproof and im thinking of building a perspects front any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated

Got to an electrical wholesaler and get a box off the shelf.

these boxes are UV treated plastic. A little time and care with silicone will make it watertight.

yeah you could do that for sure beno..

but if you use a light ply construction glued together, then glassed all over it will very strong and durable ... no real need to make a mould ... just paint it up ...:laugh:

the perspex weather gaurd could be hinged on with small s/s hinges and a catch of some sort ...

oh yeah, snaps on NCF has one mounted in his tinny, he has it totally movable with a long wire so he can put it where he likes at the time :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

yer that sounds like the go i might just glue some marine ply toegether then just glass it do i have to bog the glass or get that gell coat crap is that gell coat brush on ??

no need for marine ply mate, id use any light ply for it..maybe 8 mm, it will end up totally sealed anyway ...

give it a good sanding, if you need to tidy it up a bit use the bog, then put that gell coat crap on :laugh: :laugh: ...its called flo coat .... drill a hole in the back panel of the box for the wires before you glass it up.. make it big enough to take the attachment part also as you will have to put that through the panel as well... before you flo coat it just clean out the hole a bit of any glass .. let it dry right out before you do this as its easy to rip it off the ply if its not as hard as ....

a fiberglasser mate of mine said allways look for a suitable mold for fiber glass maybe a plastic container ie ice cream bucket could be used

select mold

apply release agent

apply gel coat

apply glass

let dry

use cool box:)
