Strange looking specimen? Any ideas?

Hi All

my 7yr old son caught this strange looking fish, with long thin jaws/mouth with nasty looking teeth and a very slim body, not a Garfish as both jaws were of equal length (upper and lower)?

I see you are having trouble with the pics. The pic needs to be a .jpeg file 100kb or less and be 500 x 500 pixels or less in size. If you need a hand with that or it sounds like a load of garble just say so and I'll help get you sorted.

haha i got the knife cheap at cash converters, only $5 and stays sharp as... the answer is both, i wanted my hook back and this was sharkbait, i've cut a few lines cos I didn't want to fiddle with them though.

yep.

I said pike because it was, at least i think, the more likely fish to encounter. From estuary to offshore, pike seem to be everywhere :laugh:

But definitely looks like a longtom:)

just out of interest mate, where were you fishing to catch that little guy? they do grow to well over 1m long, you will know all about it if you get one that size!

we were fishing in an estuary at Crescent Heads in NSW. just north of Port Macqauire

Caught planty of Bream aswell on prawn

not whole,i meant strip flesh bait..anything will eat it...ive got all sorts of fish on it
