  1. Not wanting to be a snob or anything, but you will have so much more fun if you learn how to fly fish for trout. There's a reason why fly fishing for trout is so successful. You can't imitate a caddis or a mayfly with a lure or a soft plastic...at least I haven't seen one yet Sorry to not answer your question...
  2. Not me!!!! I was referring to the non-gimp suit poddymullets determination to keep using plastics. Same goes on my boat. If you take a spin rod you might use it. I don't take spin rods.
  3. Spare a thought for us fly fishos. A mate and I donuted totally Sunday. I've also noted some pretty iridescent green algae on the edges. Water quality might be going down
  4. From a few reports it seemed Sunday was a very quite day. A mate only got an undersize snap off Mud. I donuted on NPD. First time in ages.Barometer up, go figure!! Go the plastics
  5. Rent killed them, and BCF
  6. The capillaries on my nose from a love of red wine?
  7. I've always had Minn Kotas and the only problem was a sticky foot pedal after 6 years of use. Now have the ducks nuts version with spot lock etc.etc. Great bits of kit. Spot lock is like the wheel being reinvented. Bowmount mate, don't go stern unless you just want to troll.
  8. Bonefish seem to be an incidental capture around these parts. They are in numbers up at Hervey Bay but only deep and not on the flats like other Bonefish destinations. If you could find a consistent shallow water Bonefish fishery you'd have alot of international sport fishos tearing down your door to get at them. Awesome fish on fly, go like stink....and slippery
  9. And I spent $5K on going to Kiritimati for fricking Bonefishing. Well done indeed
  10. That's why I love anchor on my leccie. I still have much to learn and only 20-30 years hopefully to crack the code
  11. About ten or so at Harries @Old Scaley. Tonnes on the banks (whiting?) I left the ramp at 4:30am and tried for livies around the channel markers for zip. Got a bit spooked of driving to Mud and beyond in the dark so hung around until first light. Not the hardcore Snapper fisho I hope to be aye:)
  12. Mental health day on Friday Tried a few spots around Mud early morning but only to be plagued by Pike so went to Harries/Tiwi Pearl for a look as I'd never never been before. Used the pike as strip bait but only got pickers. This bait game is still a bit new to me. Picked up a mackerel on the slow troll, some sandies and a few squids on way back home. Magic day to be out on the water alone Mothers day was beer battered Mackerel
  13. The Black Queen. The best finicky Bream rod ever. You could feel the slightest nibble and they didn't Give to your kids or Grandkids, they'll be worth heaps in 20 years or so. Or I'll take them off your hand for $20 each Norm the Shark
  14. Mate, I had a 4.55m Polycraft centre console before upgrading. Very stable, very seaworthy, indestructible, but wet. You have to do some easy mods to the front chines. Second-hand ones are pretty cheap, no rot, no cracked stringers. But I'm biased because I had one remember, like most other opinions you'll get. Go and have a look at a bunch of boats yourself as well of course
  15. I don't really care for exact locations, echoing Angus's comment on exploring our own. BUT, I do like reports that cover techniques that worked or and sometimes more importantly didn't work. Oh and unfortunate accidents happening to your fishing buddies is a must (with pics obviously)
  16. No such thing. As we all know they stop growing at 58.5cm
  17. What weight is it Aussie? Bribie Longtail on Fly comp is the weekend before. Two leave passes in a row. Not impossible he says to himself .....
  18. Sorry Angus, don't follow the social aspect of AFO very much. When and where.
  19. OK, time for the broken record again. Longies on Fly are almost better than sex. There, I've said it. Don't tell the missus Ted or she'll be sending me out fishing every weekend....then again Oh and for lures, 6" Kokoda paddle tails with the paddle cut off and skipped along the surface are also fun
  20. until
The next meeting is confirmed for Thursday 19th February starting at 18:30. Venue is: Wilston-Grange AFC, Hickey Park, Babarra St,Stafford QLD 4030 - see link and map at the bottom of the email The topic of the night will be: Masterclass casting - by Greg Jackson For the next few months we will be focussing on refining the cast, learning how to make casts in difficult situations etc.. To get the most out of these sessions it’d be great to get some suggestions on where you want to improve your casting. For example, “casting with the non-dominant handâ€. Having Greg donating his time is a great opportunity for all of us to improve our game. Please let your friends know, spread the word and circulate this email. The more the merrier! We will also be getting ideas for some meet and greets, especially focussed on those who are new to fly fishing See you the 19th Norm maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&source=s...929&t=h&z=16 Hickey Park, Babarra St, Stafford QLD 4030
  21. After twice breaking down with battery troubles I'll add "emery paper". Bloody new motors and their computers are very sensitive to voltage changes....
  22. I converted my tiller to controls, and its just replacing like with like and adjust a few screws. pretty simple really. Anyone want a Suzi DF50 tiller assembly? Norm
  23. Chargers again vary and some are better for your battery than others. You can pick up a cheap from supercheap or get a Guest/ C-Tek/Minn Kota. These are multistage chargers and you can set and forget them once you put them on. For 100amp battery, if you want to charge up overnight then at minimum a 5amp charger I have a 105 Amp/hr lead-acid battery with a C-Tek 7000 charger, and hope to have the battery for a long time. Norm P.S. I have a 32V 3A charger if anyone is interested, was used for electric bike battery.
