  1. Hey Greg My hols start on Monday the 21st. (September) Would you want to go with Brian, my dad, and Steve again? But hopefully catch some keepers this time! Cheers Hamish
  2. Hey Zim man I would not be sure, as I have only ever used them live in the Upper Brisbane River, but I would assume they would still go OK very fresh. I've still had luck on them both dead/live in saltwater, so there's no reason why you couldn't do the same in the fresh. The only problem I think might be the catfish/vermin get to them before bass... Live baits would probably attract more activity, and attract more fish. I'm sure @rayke1938 would know - he is the shrimp-bass-meister! Cheers Hamish
  3. The El Nino event is what I was just learning about in Geography class, tugger. I'm guessing the hot air coming over is good for pelagics. I know they seem to go better in Summer so hopefully if it's extra hot they're extra big! Cheers Hamish
  4. Hey Breaming with bro Sounds like you're having fun with that reel. I don't normally service my reels, unless they start playing up and I cannot fix it myself. A service is a lot of money wasted when you can do it yourself. I have the same drag washers on my Sienna 1000 from when I got it 7 or so years ago. It's caught many, many big fish and the drag still goes fine so I'd imagine your reel would last very well as well Cheers Hamish
  5. Thanks Kat, glad it helped. There are lots of things to learn about fishing over time so I'm sure you'll learn/figure more things out @GregOug, aren't you impressed? I writ a good explanation! Cheers Hamish
  6. Hi Daniel1987 I've never fished there, but thought I'd just say welcome to the forum. Here are some sites which may help though - https://www.topothegulfmarine.com.au/blog/port-augusta-fishing-guide-yellowtail-kingfish/ http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/the-kings-of-south-oz https://www.kaydofishingworld.com/warm-water-kingfish-in-mid-winter/ https://www.portaugusta.sa.gov.au/attractions/the-gulf/yellow-tail-king-fish Cheers Hamish
  7. Hey JMW21 Good luck, mate. I hope you smash a few bigguns! Please tell us how you go. I'd love to here. Cheers Hamish
  8. Hey Jaz44 I understand what you mean by sentimental value. I know my 1000 Sienna is cheap, but I have had it for yonks and could never get rid of it! I don't think it is possible to apply more drag to a reel. You should use your other reels for that if you want more drag. Like said above, if you try doing more and more things will fail. Cheers Hamish
  9. Hey rayke1938 What a fun day out. Looks like Neil and you had a good one with some fun fishing too. Some nice bass and tandans there. Cheers Hamish
  10. This happens to me on some of my reels too. I think it is key to just keep the line in the roller always, Breaming with bro. I also think due to braid, especially if it's new, it can slip. If you've felt it, some new braid is quite greasy almost, so that's probably why in my opinion. Cheers Hamish
  11. Hey GregOug Pity that you got no fish, and annoying about all the weed. I'd guess it would make fishing near impossible. Some stunning scenery shots there though, so it looks like you still had a good time! I like the second last shot, and the fishing shots showed that you at least gave it a red hot crack. Good one. Cheers Hamish P.S. Unfortunately for you, the Northsiders' have still caught bugger all. You may have to start catching soon!
  12. Hey Karlene0407 First of all, welcome to the forum The haven't found any pages on the 'Wonky Holes', but did find this link that may give you some tips - https://creektocoast.com.au/where-to-fish-in-the-whitsundays/#:~:text=Just off a couple of,also run prolifically out there. Your best bet would probably be to go to local tackle shops/call local charters and see if they may give you a tip Cheers Hamish
  13. Hey JMW21 Seems like the prawns are on. A cast net will be very handy, and as well as for jew and threadies, prawns are also gun bait for flatties, bream, cod, perch, and even mangrove jacks! As for breaky creek, I've never fished there... But read heaps about it. Here are some old threads which will hopefully give you a hand - Alright, that is all I have time for now, but if you type in 'breakfast' into the search bar at the top right corner of the forum page you will get pages of these pages! For jew, I think around the mouth is better, and same with salmon. I can only suggest getting some good livies, such as prawns and mullet, tieing it on 30lb leader, and fishing deep holes/drop offs. Cheers Hamish
  14. Those look like some excellent baits - you sure have the knack of yabby pumping Kat! Pity no fish have eaten them! Cheers Hamish
  15. Is the reason there isn't any more sledging is because GregOug is offline everyone??? Just shows how immature the Northsiders are compared to us mature Southsiders! Cheers Hamish
  16. Hey Dinodadog Nice session, despite the lack of shrimp it seems like you still got some good ones. Like always, nice job! Cheers Hamish
  17. Hey Drop Bear and ellicat Well I sat the exam today in fourth period. I was very nervous (which probably didn't help) but managed to get a B+ Hopefully I can get better in my next shiken! A bit more study wouldn't hurt, that's for sure. Cheers Hamish
  18. Also, I totally agree about the no fish in cast nets/drag nets/crab pots. Not really catching them in the sporting way. Cheers Hamish
  19. Hey tugger Good trev, nice one. Must've put up an OK tussle (Sorry, I stole your word ellicat ). Cheers Hamish
  20. Hi Mick26 Sorry, I don't have a clue! Hopefully you can fix the issue ASAP. Thought I'd just say welcome to AFO. Hoping you like it so far. Cheers Hamish P.S. Just so you're aware, this thread is from 2016! Sometimes it's easier to create a new one altogether to get more recognition/responses.
  21. Hey a-frame81 Yep, you aren't really going to get soaked without plugs but they sure help! Kayaks are so handy for getting places were boats and people can't. Up a feeder creek, in the lillies, through the trees. You name it... Cheers Hamish

Hey all Just wondering, any word on the new Broncs coach? (Sorry if I've missed it) Cheers Hamish
  23. Hey Ed. Even though there weren't any quality to the fish, that is a stunning day out on the water. The shots of the wrecks are great, as well. Good job. Hopefully next time you get some better fish Cheers Hamish
  24. Hey Kat Like said above, I think they mean that your leader is longer. To give you an idea, you'll normally have your mainline, which is the line coming off the reel, then a leader (which is connected to your mainline by a uni, shocker, albright knot, etc), then a swivel and sinker, and then a trace, and finally a hook. Often your leader is longest, and your trace is a bit shorter. Sometimes you don't have a swivel and trace, and just tie a leader to your mainline. If using mono line, you don't normally bother with a leader (or you don't have to), but if using a braided mainline, you tie a leader on for abrasion resistance as braid has no stretch. Cheers Hamish
  25. Good one Drop Bear, looks like a nice session. The catches would've been a bit of fun, especially those macks. I bet they go as hard as anything! Cheers Hamish
