New Toy.

I just got a brand new ryobi fishing safari 5000a metaroyal and I looks and feels great and is solid aswell It is not heavy as it looks which is a bonus too.

The reel has multi max anti reverse but I have concern it is not 100%. The handle will move back about 2-3mm when winding is stopped aswell as the rotor spinning back 5-6mm and clunking to a stop. Does anyone have knowledge on this reel that could assist my concern?

not sure about this but i was looking at this reel too, it looks great and the specs are good. what is the max drag do you know? and also how much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking.

It has 12kg of fully functional drag and I got it for a ridiculously cheap 299 : ) Last one though.

Got it for mainly spinning big slugs off the rocks for big things up north and a bit of jigging and popping on some holidays planned for the future.

thats awesome mate had a look at them too but drifted of them for some reason as i thought they looked a bit heavy but as you say they are lightr than they look maybe worth a second look

how much are they normally mate?

400 is a good price. From what I have seen. It weighs exactly 700 grams.

Impressive specs indeed. Used to be a big fan of ryobi stuff when I was a kid. It copped a lot of abuse and seemed to stand the test of time. I would be very interested o see how it serves you in the long run. i.e. presence or lack of surface rust on screws etc.

Lately I have always been let down by non shimano or daiwa reels (middle to low end gear). i.e. Okuma or silstar reels have always ended up with surface rust despite religous cleaning.
