Hi guys, I'm looking at getting licensed for VHF radio use, also maybe some ham radio use. Would anyone know where in Brisbane you can get it? Also, if anyone else is interested, we can do a group thing?

You may not have a vhf yet :silly: but wouldn't be better to be licenced before you get one you might buy a boat with one and get caught out :woohoo:

what actually confirms a vhf licence is it a document of paper or a reference noted on your car /boat licence so when authorities do a check they know. And do you need a licence for mh/hf radio as this is the ultimate radio for off shore work as it does not require a repeater chanel like the vhf to work over long range distances.

Was listening to an MSQ bloke on the radio. You can have a VHF onboard without penalty. You just need a licence to use it. The same that you can have outdated flares and old life jackets without penalty provided you have in-date items as necessary.

Did my licence course and test with reelchippy last year. You get a plastic card with your pic on it that details whether you're proficient for just VHF or open.

Two qualifications -

Marine Radio Operators VHF Certificate of Proficiency (MROVCP) or

Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP)

Where did you get this info. It goes against anything ive even been told

I read it somewhere when researching getting my licience ???

It read that if it's on board there is intent on using it illegally

Basically it stated ok your not using it but you could ???

been pulled over by water police, fisheries,national parks and maritime services with a vhf in the boat and no licence heaps of times and no one has ever said a word

I was told that you could get fined but no ever has as they dont want to discouarge people from having a great peice of safety gear
