Wish we could have something like this up here.

Looks like ecofishers and Shooters party are really achieving something down south. Really wide terms of reference and Shooters party member is the chair.

Dont see why we couldnt put in a submission if we feel inclined.

Brown chairs NSW rec fishing committee

The NSW Legislative Council has established a select committee to examine recreational fishing in NSW.

Chaired by Robert Brown MLC of The Shooters Party the committee consisting of members of all major political parties, has commenced its enquiry and is inviting interested parties to contribute submissions.

"This parliamentary inquiry will take a thorough look at recreational fishing, for both coastal and inland fisheries, and the way it is managed in this state. There are over half a million recreational fishing licence holders in NSW and this inquiry will examine the benefits and opportunities that improved recreational fisheries may represent for licence holders" said Brown.

While the committe is expected to look at the current policies in regards to the regulations and policy making processes controlling recreational fishing in NSW, the effectiveness of existing marine protected areas (MPAs) and marine parks will be closely examined.

"This inquiry will also consider the value of recreational fisheries to the economy of NSW, as well as ecologically sustainable development issues relAted to improving recreational fisheries, said Brown.

Submissions addressing the terms of reference (these can be obtained from the Committee Secretariat on (02) 9230 3544 or at: www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/fishinginquiry) are invited to be lodged by Friday 19 March 2010. A series of public meetings have been scheduled to follow in Sydney and coastal and regional areas from April to June.

Terms of Reference Establishing Committee

Minutes of Proceedings No. 128,Tuesday 24 November, Item 36, p 1545

1. That a select committee be appointed to inquire into and report on the benefits and opportunities that improved recreational fisheries may represent for fishing licence holders in New South Wales, and in particular:

(a) the current suite of existing regulatory, policy, and decision-making processes in relation to the management of recreational fisheries in New South Wales, including the process for the creation of Marine Protected Areas and Marine Parks and the efficacy of existing Marine Protected Areas and Marine Parks,

(B) the effectiveness and efficiency of the current representational system of trusts and advisory committees that advise government departments and statutory authorities,

© the value of recreational fisheries to the economy in New South Wales,

(d) the gaps in existing recreational fishery programs, including the number and location of Recreational Fishing Havens, and

(e) ecologically sustainable development issues related to improving recreational fisheries.

2. That the committee consist of seven members:

(a) Government members: Mr Veitch, Mr Catanzariti, Ms Robertson,

(B) Opposition members: Mr Colless, Mr Lynn, and

© Cross bench members: Mr Brown, Mr Cohen.

3. That, notwithstanding anything contained in the standing orders:

(a) the Chair of the committee be Mr Brown, and

(B) the Deputy Chair be Mr Catanzariti.

4. That, notwithstanding anything contained in the standing orders, at any meeting of the committee, any four members of the committee will constitute a quorum.

5. That the committee report by 25 November 2010—put and passed.

Note only one green on the committee will be very interesting as to what eventuates as their fishing havens are very controversial.
