Fishing gear and Flying

Heading up to Cairns for a few days of Barra fishing and depending on the cyclone, chasing some pelagics. Just wondering how i'm best to transport my gear. Not sure if i should fly with tackle bags as it is (so 2 bags) or pull it all apart and throw it in with my cloths in 1 big bag. Also taking 2 spin reels, do you think i'd be allowed to take as carry on or could they be used as a weapon?

I would put what you can in the one suitcase, including the reels.

I usually remove the handles on mine and put them in a reel bag, then nestle them inbetween some things in your bag. If you dont have reel bags, you can use socks. depending on the size of the reels you could even tuck them into some shoes for protection.

Remember if taking rods and flying jetstar the tube cannot be over 1.9m

You can't take lures with your carry on gear (weapon). Also, no fishing line (to tie people up presumably) and we've also been lectured not to take reels with line on them as they could be "outlawed" shortly.

Just chuck it all in your other luggage and take some magazines on the plane with you ;)
