Heavier Jig heads

[Scope]

G'day guys need a quick piece of advice again please.

What size Jigheads should I use for 20-50m of water... Its for reef fishing.

Was thinking between 1/2 ounce up to 1 ounce (approx 27g?)

I'm guessing current will have a bit to do with it too.

Also - I'll probably be using 5-7inch plastics, so what size hooks should I be looking at???

The weight depends on the current. but hooks sizes for 5inch should be 5/0 for 7inch 6/0 & 7/0. hopes this helps abit.

Don't know what the run is like up there but would pack 1/4 as well as the 1/2 and 1 oz.

if i ever get my gamatsu heavy duty hooks from charltons i am making jig heads from 1/4-1oz

I keep the range from 1/4 ounce through to 1 ounce then you can cover most of the situations in that deep water, in saying that I havent caught anything on them yet I need some help from some of the pros on the site to show me how to use them.

Put a small squid or half a pillie on one, Davey :laugh:

take a range of weights and if the wind is making your drift too fast to get down, you can add a ball sinker to help get it down. I find I have to change weights at least a couple of times during a session to suit conditions.
