New Forum Feature #1 - Multiple Attachments

AFO

Recommended Posts

We will be doing some formal articles and hopefully some Tutorial Videos of the new features of AFO, but to whet your appetite and get you familiar with some of the new features we have outlined one in this post.

New Forum Feature #1 - Multiple Attachments

One of the great new features in the forum upgrade is the ability to add multiple attachments (files or photos) into a single post. We will soon be reviewing our policy of extenally hosted images now that we have this feature implemented, so in the meantime try to familiarise yourself with the new attachment system.

(Click on the images below to make them larger)

You browse for your photos and then click the Insert button to actually place them within your post. You can put images in between text to make a good story or report. If you just want to add a file as an attachment to a post you simply browse for the file and once you click Submit for the post it will just have the file as an attachment.

To actually insert the attachment within the post, eg putting an image in the post, you need to make sure you click the insert button next to the corresponding attachment and place this tag within the post where you would like the image/attachment to show.

Images can be large in size and dimensions as the forum will automatically resize them to suit.

nice update webby, just a quick thing on that. when you click the image and it silhouettes the rest of the forum, the 'close' button is there in the bottom right but it's white/hidden. might be an issue for some - alternatively clicking the darkened area works also

Admin Note: This is now fixed

does that mean I won't be able to use external hosting if i chose to, and if so, how come?

i would have thought it would have been better for forum performance to use imageshacks bandwidth instead of afo's? plus i like using external hosting for multiple forum use etc...

cheers

Dan

As mentioned in the previous post, this is something we will be considering in due course. There are several reasons for and against. Performance and bandwidth are not too onerous as we can host these on a cloud ourselves. The main reason being is that we cannot keep control of the content, by which if the external site went offline or closed then the images or attachments would not display and in some circumstances this disrupts whole threads and topics and can make some posts useless then.

This is already evident if you look at older posts on here where people have hosted on an external site but now no longer use that site and whole threads have broken image links and makes a mess of the thread.
