Max hp

Hi, Does anyone know what the max HP and weight can go on the back of a 3m Stessco tinny?

I can't decide between a 5hp 4 stroke or a 9.9 or 15hp 2 stroke. I will be just using it in the canals and dams with some trolling, what way would you go?

If you want to be 100% sure on Max HP for your boat call up ''Stessco dealer'' and ask them, and in response to your second question i would go the 15hp

Id go the 15 as well, only prob you might have is they do idle rough but it would open your options for what your tinny could be used for

if its a 3mtr it would be around 6-8ph max

I would be very surprised that the max hp would be over 6hp.

If you have a motor over the recommended power of the manufacturer and have an incident you will be done like a dinner under the general safety obligations.

It would be dangerously overpowered with a 9.9 or over on it.

it should have a munfacturers plate on it somewhere if not you should get 1 for it which will have the max hp and i would strongly suggest not to exceed it as you will be held liable in any incident as that is 1 of the first things they will check and you will also void any insurance even the 3rd party

My boat max HP is meant to be 120HP, but I had the whole thing rebuilt by Arnolds, the only way I could get insurance was to have a letter from Arnold, stating that my boat could now take up to and including 150HP.

If you are gonna troll alot, then no question, 4stroke is the way to go. I have a 9.9hp on my 10ft glass boat and it hammers, so that would be a bit much on a similar size tinnie. The 5 will get it from a to b just fine.

I used to have a 10 footer with a 15hp 2 stroke and it was great.

Thanks guys for the replies I was leaning towards the 4 stroke. Today I spoke with a guy from Stessco and it looks like I'm going to go for the 5hp 4 stroke.

Just thought I'd add that 4hp and under motors mean you don't have to register your boat, though could limit where you could take the tinny
