catching bait around cleveland/raby bay canals

just wondering where abouts in cleveland or in the canals is a decent place to catch some bait with the trusty old cast net? almost everywhere i've gone is full of rocks and snags and the places that aren't all i've managed is a couple of 50mm bream. can't seem to find any herring, mullet or anything i can use.

Sometimes at the wellington point jetty there are small schools of mullet swimming around, there are also quite a few hardiheads. From experience the wello point jetty doesn't have that many snags, but just go down to the end of the jetty and you'll be right.

try the wello jetty . saturday there were hundreds of hardy heads out at huybers around the boat , the cast net wasn't in the boat as i put it on the fridge to get the boat ready and forgot to put it back in.

either that or try the beaches out the front of raby bay

thanks. i was really hoping that i'd be able to get some from somewhere closer, but i suppose wello isn't that far out of the way if it means the difference between catching some fish or not.

Would a bait jig cast of the jetty be effective to get the mullet and hardy heads?

Mate stuff wello point if your going to go that far go to redland bay and cast net at Vienam creek

It's full of 3-5 inch mullet and prawns I mean like 30 each net !!!!

To all of u guys the best place is down to the Redland bay ramp and there is a marine and u can throw your net and there is prawns, tilapia , mullet , herring and sometimes hardy heads.
