Kicking it Old School: Wading the Flats

Hi guys,

Decided to blow of uni yesterday, and instead head down south with a mate to chase some flatties on the flats. Rather than pulling out the yaks, we usually just wade through, as the majority of places are <1m deep. With the top of the tide about 30 minutes after we got there, we thought we were in with a good shot.

Day started pretty slowly, with only two dropped fish in the first stretch that produced 4 or 5 last time.

I was first off the mark with a small bream taken on a Damiki Ripper

Next up Kev was on board with a legal flattie

and so it went on, tit for tat throughout most of the day, with a few small bream and a lot of flatties, ranging from the impossibly small to well legal fish. Was a definite highlight though, pulled what would be close to a pb fish for me, landed on 4lb leader too!

A stingray harpooned me through my ankle.........the worst pain I have ever gone through and a one way ticket to hospital! :sick:

Probably one of the few ways i would still fish landbased now. Thats a nice flatty. Whatlip grips are those?

Yeah man the bloke i was with physically stood on two, and had a few others bugger off right as his feet. Obviously my shoes were smelly enough to keep them away, didnt have any come within cooee of me!
