You can check the swell on most sites that also list the tides this will give you and indication of the potential waves

Little to no swell will have relative flat conditions. Large swell will present bigger waves

Or just check the news. They show this stuff each week too for the weekends

Wind can also play a part depending on direction and tide

Edit: http://www.willyweather.com.au/qld/gold-coast/broadbeach.html this link gives you tide times, swell and so on i have it listed at broadbeach but just find the location you want

I use brownies coastwatch site for all my weather predictions and up to date wind and swell indicators go on there and have a good look around you will see wave rider bouys they give you the lastest swell and wave hieght. Then click on the qld map with the area you want and up will come the weather forecast and you can get the latest bom predictions, there is also wind speed indicators on there for alot of areas and this gives you the latest wind speed updateed every half hour and for the latest 72hours, it also has tide predictions, moon phases and fishing reports. This site has surf cams on the coasts and around bar and seaway entrances and also synoptic charts and weather radars this is the most valueable weather site in my opinion

good luck and be safe on the water

I could not see sweels at that page, however the link below shows the swell predictions for Gold Coast, and it shows as 2 feet for Saturday (which is the lowest in comparison to other days on the graphic.

Is 2 feet considered as low wave ?
