queensland sooty grunter fishing townsville

How you going guys and girls im working in Townsville and was thinking of doing some sooty grunter fishing as I have never got one before if anyone has any ideas where to go in Townsville that would be great

Dunno about Townsville but you could drive a couple of hours up to Tully.

Flash my experience up there is limited to a trip with Mick Hasset but it seems most fresh water up there holds them.

I would google map the area and find some streams with limited road access leading into the jungle and do some exploring.

Systems without weirs should have a good chance of jungle perch as well.

Iv found one spot 33km south of townsville called alligator creek thinking maybe give that ago

To be honest man it seems to be a bit of a black hole for sooty`s they occur in the Burdiken to the south and Herbert to north. Alligator will throw up some nice jungles but as far as sootys go the closest to townsville would be some of the feeder creeks to the stone river south Ingham . Hopefully that helps
