understanding tides

i feel silly but is there any good net sites to learn about tides.i checked tide predicter on friday and for gold coast seaway low tide was 8 30-9ish ok i could follow that(we were fishing the coomera)it then showed i thought the tide then going up as it came in,yet we fished till nearly 3 and i didnt notice any change as appeared still very low.so i need to learn more.cheers john

Hehehehe I don't know a good site to recommend so started writing a war and peace novel :dry: trying to explain tides, gave up sorry.

Short answer on what seems was your circumstances. You were fishing the 1st or 3rd quarter of the moon which gives the small highs and big lows. This means not much run because there is not much variation between high and low. Also depending on how far up a river you go tidal influences eventually fade out.

Full and new moon = big highs and small lows = big tide variation and a lot of run.

1st and 3rd quarter = small highs and big lows = little tide variation and not much run.
