K-bah G20 weekend Report

Taking advantage of the G20 long weekend, I decided to hit up Lake Kurwongbah in my Freak Sports assassin GT kayak. Armed with my Nordic Stage Areal Pro 6’6, 1000FE / 8lb and ZX35, Kurwongbah produced some amazing fish for me.

I used my sounder to locate the schools in about 5-6m of water. The technique I used was a slow jig off the bottom through the school of fish, with every fish taking the lure on the drop to the bottom again.

All the bass were 40cm+, with one topping 46cm.

Then I found the yellowbellies.

Then this donkey came along..

58cm and PB!

Sorry for the photo quality, I only had my phone with me. I was struggling to take some nice photos while still trying to look after the fish.

The size of that yella is amazing considering the first yellas went in there in 2007. I havent heard of any yellas any near that size from kurwongbah. Could be the result of MSG.

I am interested in the growth rate of the bass and yellas we put in there, the bass should of been hitting 46cm this year. If you get another could you put up a genuine brag mat pic.

Weighed 2.9kg

Me and den also got over 30 bass between us.

Well done mate they're some good fish! I think I had a chat to you just before you left. I didn't do as good as you only got 5 bass and had to change up the less a bit but they were mainly solid fish with most bass around the 40 mark and a yella. Got mine on blades and plastics

Ray the yellas reached 42cm by 2010 so should easy be reaching 50+ these days.

Hi Ray! I saw some bait fishos at Kurwongbah Dam last month so I went over for a yarn. One of them showed me a pic of him holding two big yellas with the rowing club in the background. He says they were 3.5 and 3.8kg and were caught on live shrimp at dawn. They looked at least 55cm!
