Hey guys,

Got the call from the brother in law to go chase marlin with him yesterday off the Gold Coast.

Long story short, we trolled around just outside the 36s in about 80m of water for about 4 hours with not one hit. We couldn't find any bait either (not even at the FADs or usual bait grounds outside the seaway) and we saw only one other boat hook up and land one but they were live baiting.

On our way back in, we decided to just keep trolling the skirted lures and glad we did because it saved us from a donut!!!

Pretty much on our way back in, we say something chase then hit the lure closest to the boat but couldn't make out what it was because of the wash from the prop. Missed it first go, but luckily the fish wanted the lure bad and came back for a second swipe and hooked on this time!!! (THANK GOD).

Line was peeling of the TLD20 at speed!!! We thought at first we were on to a small stipey with the way it was taking line and playing up on the surface (but didn't actually breach the water), but only after a good 5 minute fight, we saw that it was a decent wahoo!!! It's probably not the biggest wahoo caught but it was my first ever so super stoked!!! He was all lit up too in like an electric blue!!! Such an awesome looking fish!!!

Kept it for a feed and also gave some to the extended family.

Forgot to mention that, there were plenty of game fishing boats out yesterday also chasing marlin!!! and we were in a 4.5m tinny!!! hahaha

Was a tough day out but still better then being at work!!! haha

Cheers

Awesome stuff mate, especially from a 4.5m tinny - what sort of boat is it?  Have outriggers?

Thanks mate!!! :) It's not my boat (brother in laws) but, I think the brand of boat is a SportsCraft or something but its very similar setup to a Quintrex Renegade side console...

We had no out riggers or anything... just used the standard rod holders and had 3 skirted lures and 1 teaser out. Everyone was kinda of looking at us like "what the F are these guys doing out here?!?!"... hahaha... all the other boats out there were pretty much game boats and had out riggers and all that jazz set up... we went budget!!!
