Photo Gps Link

Hi,

I am posting photos and I wonder if they still have the GPS location attached when they are uploaded to the site? I did a bit of a check and there was no location on some other photos I have uploaded but I am not sure if there is a way to get this info.

I know how to turn this off on my phone but sometimes I forget. I can edit this but wanted to check.

It is just that I am posting photos of my new boat and didn't want random people knowing where I am storing it.

Thanks

I just checked your first pic from your post "Maiden Voyage for Quampie" and while it does tell me the phone and model used (Samsung G930F), the time taken, focal length, exposure, etc there was no GPS info in the pic.

Not sure if this pic had GPS info when you posted it or not though. Some websites automatically strip GPS info from pics for security reasons - not sure if AFO does though?

When posting photos, if you want to not have the photo's location remain with the photo it is recommended to have an app to remove this from the exif data of the images. So if you don't want photos of your kids and the location of your house posted on instagram etc this is also recommended as much as it is for not giving away your secret fishing spot x.

The AFO site doesn't explicitly strip geolocation data from the images that are attachments, however other system settings may result in this happening regardless (such as the "maximum image size to store" setting). If you want to 'scrub' your images in advance of uploading there are lots of apps out there, like http://www.exifpurge.com/

I had no idea this data was even stored in photos! I will have to investigate settings on phone and camera.

Yep, that's how iPhone etc can map where the photos have been taken.

Geolocation has been a big issue for militaries around the world the last few years! As they've inadvertently disclosed their locations by posting photos to facebook and instagram:
