Leaders or Traces?

In response to a question raised in another forum i thought i would open this one.

I am fairly certain for those asking what the difference between traces and leaders are that this well answer your question.

Leaders are attached directly the main line whether it be braid or otherwise. Hence leader knots.

Traces are attaches via a swivel or other means and are not knotted to the main line.

ok, I supose thats why leaders also tend to be longer, the knots can go through the runners.

What if I connect a leader line to a swivel? Is it a trace or leader - or who cares?

reading magazines they always talk about wind on leaders for game fish which is usually 80-200lb but i've never heard of a wind on trace so angus is probably right
