  1. For anyone who hasn't read it yet, it's bloody great! Good story GregOug! Cheers Hamish
  2. Hey Jono Hopefully someone on here will have something, but Gumtree is a great place to look. Here is a link. I don't think it's the right size but is 'being sold for parts'. https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rothwell/fishing/shimano-baitrunner-4500/1255739843 Cheers Hamish P.S. Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what type of fishing you do, but we'd love any reports, even if it's a donut!
  3. Hey Dino Jeez, that's amazing. Watching a fish eat the bait! Good job on the fish too. And yes, the measures some people take to out fish you... are... well...costly! Cheers Hamish
  4. Hey GregOug Oh well.... Oh well! That's a great trip despite the difficulties due to wildlife and weather! It would've been an awesome experience. I wish you'd have gotten some bigger fish but that sounds like you had a good experience with it all around. Great story. Loved it. Cheers Hamish
  5. Hey Kat Despite their seemingly good fighting and excellent eating qualities, they seem to be over looked a lot compared to your typical bread and butter species (which are things such as bream, whiting, flathead - basically estuary species). I'm sure you'll be able to hook one eventually as they should be there. Cheers Hamish
  6. Hey Kat Yep, that sure is a flounder. You find them on sand bars, and they are like flatties in the way that they lie down on sand bars and ambush their bait. I don't know the exact size, but I think they get a bit over thirty centimetres. My biggest ever was 32cm out of the Pine River, and they taste bloomin' good too! Here is a NSW DPI link on them with some helpful characteristics - https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/fish-species/species-list/flounder They have no size limit in QLD but do have a bag limit of twenty. (I am happy to be corrected though). Cheers Hamish
  7. Now, some explaining... We pulled the lizard up. Netted it, only to have it go crazy. It was a pain in the yak and we wanted to quickly release. We got the brag mat photo (or measure one), which was 55cm. (Sorry to pip yours by .5cm Old Scaley). I then remembered I forgot my three fingers so I just took it in the same sesh. I really hope it still counts christophagus! And some stats - Angler Name - Hamish Cavanagh/AUS-BNE-FISHO Fish - 55cm Dusky Flathead Cheers Hamish
  8. Hey all OK, I don't want to spoil my report but... My three fingers A 55CM Lizard! Cheers Hamish
  9. Nice Breaming with bro. They would've been a bitta fun. I am going out tomorrow for a yakking session so I hope I can get a good cod, bream, and if I'm very lucky a salmon! Cheers Hamish
  10. Sounds good! We can always tow my dad in our kayak if there is not enough room for him onboard... But with your boat he'd probably just go flying off when you accelerate! Cheers Hamish
  11. Hey Nirvana While you didn't catch much, you seem to have had a great day out with the fam. Good one! Cheers Hamish
  12. Hey Greg My hols start on Monday the 21st. (September) Would you want to go with Brian, my dad, and Steve again? But hopefully catch some keepers this time! Cheers Hamish
  13. Hey Zim man I would not be sure, as I have only ever used them live in the Upper Brisbane River, but I would assume they would still go OK very fresh. I've still had luck on them both dead/live in saltwater, so there's no reason why you couldn't do the same in the fresh. The only problem I think might be the catfish/vermin get to them before bass... Live baits would probably attract more activity, and attract more fish. I'm sure @rayke1938 would know - he is the shrimp-bass-meister! Cheers Hamish
  14. The El Nino event is what I was just learning about in Geography class, tugger. I'm guessing the hot air coming over is good for pelagics. I know they seem to go better in Summer so hopefully if it's extra hot they're extra big! Cheers Hamish
  15. Hey Breaming with bro Sounds like you're having fun with that reel. I don't normally service my reels, unless they start playing up and I cannot fix it myself. A service is a lot of money wasted when you can do it yourself. I have the same drag washers on my Sienna 1000 from when I got it 7 or so years ago. It's caught many, many big fish and the drag still goes fine so I'd imagine your reel would last very well as well Cheers Hamish
  16. Thanks Kat, glad it helped. There are lots of things to learn about fishing over time so I'm sure you'll learn/figure more things out @GregOug, aren't you impressed? I writ a good explanation! Cheers Hamish
  17. Hi Daniel1987 I've never fished there, but thought I'd just say welcome to the forum. Here are some sites which may help though - https://www.topothegulfmarine.com.au/blog/port-augusta-fishing-guide-yellowtail-kingfish/ http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/the-kings-of-south-oz https://www.kaydofishingworld.com/warm-water-kingfish-in-mid-winter/ https://www.portaugusta.sa.gov.au/attractions/the-gulf/yellow-tail-king-fish Cheers Hamish
  18. Hey JMW21 Good luck, mate. I hope you smash a few bigguns! Please tell us how you go. I'd love to here. Cheers Hamish
  19. Hey Jaz44 I understand what you mean by sentimental value. I know my 1000 Sienna is cheap, but I have had it for yonks and could never get rid of it! I don't think it is possible to apply more drag to a reel. You should use your other reels for that if you want more drag. Like said above, if you try doing more and more things will fail. Cheers Hamish
  20. Hey rayke1938 What a fun day out. Looks like Neil and you had a good one with some fun fishing too. Some nice bass and tandans there. Cheers Hamish
  21. This happens to me on some of my reels too. I think it is key to just keep the line in the roller always, Breaming with bro. I also think due to braid, especially if it's new, it can slip. If you've felt it, some new braid is quite greasy almost, so that's probably why in my opinion. Cheers Hamish
  22. Hey GregOug Pity that you got no fish, and annoying about all the weed. I'd guess it would make fishing near impossible. Some stunning scenery shots there though, so it looks like you still had a good time! I like the second last shot, and the fishing shots showed that you at least gave it a red hot crack. Good one. Cheers Hamish P.S. Unfortunately for you, the Northsiders' have still caught bugger all. You may have to start catching soon!
  23. Hey Karlene0407 First of all, welcome to the forum The haven't found any pages on the 'Wonky Holes', but did find this link that may give you some tips - https://creektocoast.com.au/where-to-fish-in-the-whitsundays/#:~:text=Just off a couple of,also run prolifically out there. Your best bet would probably be to go to local tackle shops/call local charters and see if they may give you a tip Cheers Hamish
  24. Hey JMW21 Seems like the prawns are on. A cast net will be very handy, and as well as for jew and threadies, prawns are also gun bait for flatties, bream, cod, perch, and even mangrove jacks! As for breaky creek, I've never fished there... But read heaps about it. Here are some old threads which will hopefully give you a hand - Alright, that is all I have time for now, but if you type in 'breakfast' into the search bar at the top right corner of the forum page you will get pages of these pages! For jew, I think around the mouth is better, and same with salmon. I can only suggest getting some good livies, such as prawns and mullet, tieing it on 30lb leader, and fishing deep holes/drop offs. Cheers Hamish
  25. Those look like some excellent baits - you sure have the knack of yabby pumping Kat! Pity no fish have eaten them! Cheers Hamish
