Every man and his dog was out at Scarborough reef this morning. Seemed pretty slow for everyone with only a few small bream being landed. Got plenty of these pike looking ugly things but not sure what they are exactly. Seemed very common.

Had to keep moving to get away from them and search for 'proper' fish.

Actually they make awesome bait live or dead, big snapper, jewies, threadies and Mackerel etc love them. The fillets make great bait for smaller fish. I usually keep a few if I happen upon them while I am out as they come in handy sometimes. I got my PB Spanish Mackerel on a live pike when I was in the solomon Islands years ago.

Locally know as "Yellowtail" [Pike]. Used to catch bags of them as a kid 'jigging' a piece of yellow or red cotton tied onto a long shank hook.

I've made one jump out of the water to eat a lure and caught one on Allan's Snakes Alive on a jighead.

Poor mans whiting. If you like oilier fish, they are better than whiting.

Sounds like I've done well to catch a few then..... Lol a lolly snake and bits of cloth!

Was going to keep a couple but not knowing exactly what they were (although pike was my guess) I thought I better put them back.
