Recently I had to go to the USA for work, I went a day early to catch a baseball game in LA before heading to Las Vegas and then up to Minnesota for the work parts of the trip. Now some years ago I lived in LA and use to go out regularly on charter boats all along the coast. With a morning to myself, I decided to head out for a morning trip.

I was staying at an airport hotel and the boat dock is less than 10mins drive from LAX (Los Angeles Airport) Cast off is 7.30am and return is noon, I arrived at 725am Jumped on board and payed up.

It cost the following, $39 Adult, $10 Rod/Tackle rental and $15 one day fishing license. Once on board the have a galley that you can buy most food items from. Fresh cooked hamburgers, sandwiches, drinks, beer etc. all at reasonable prices. http://mdrsf.com/

It’s about a 40 min run in the boat I went in, the normal boat was out of action that day , it would be a 15min run to the fishing grounds in that boat. Once there the style of fishing was "rock fishing" i.e. bottom bashing in about 270ft of water (80m ) They provide live anchovies and live squid in a large live bait tank in the centre of the boat.

We fished three different spots throughout the time, I caught around 10 fish the biggest being about 50cm and that seemed to be amazing for everyone, the average sized fish caught seemed to be around 20cm and they kept fish as small as 10cm. They had a jackpot system running on the boat, you pay $5 at the start and at the end of the trip, and the person with the largest fish wins the kitty. Pretty good idea however it is only for dead fish kept.

Overall, it was a good experience, I will say that when I lived there I never went on that boat because it was too slow and only goes rock fishing. So for my first time on that boat and rock fishing it what was I expected. Good morning out and something different to home. Drove down to Anaheim that night to see the LA Angels baseball game, great night out. The next night was Las Vegas, no pics or story's that I am willing to share from there! :woohoo:

My old place, no wonder I went out on the boats a lot
