Wooden Kit Boats

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew of kit suppliers or had any kit patterns for small wooden boats. I am thinking of making a small boat less than 3 meters in length out of marine ply as my Christmas project.

I am trying to do this on a very thin budget. To keep cost down I think a flat bottom style would be the best way to go.

Pretty sure you would be able to buy something cheaper than the marine ply would cost you. Check out Ebay boats, usually a few tenders going there for under $300. Even some larger tinnies from time to time that go for under $300.

As said they built one on Better Homes and Gardens on Friday night with all the plans in the latest magazine. Looked pretty small and flimsy to me and when that prouldy displayed it and said it took a weekend and $500 I thought why bother, and go and get yourself an 8 foot alloy punt.

Hi Guys

I have purchased some canoe and kayak plans from JEM Watercraft a US site, the response was very good and service outstanding!!!

The guy followed up with an email to make sure I recieved the goods...very impressed.

I will be building a ply canoe next year.

You can get cheap alloy boats but a lovley wooden boat is just mystical.

There is a link to fishntales of hervey bay on the home page. Look for a couple of threads from hairymick. he has built a couple of yaks there and the workmanship is outstanding and he takes you through each stage. Also says where he gets his plans from.

Cheers
