locked stereo in hilux

hey guys,

the other day i had battery trouble in my hilux and now it seems the stereo has locked itself up. it don't work and says SEC on the screen. there is no pin number in the owners manual or hints as to how to fix the problem. would anyone know how to rectify this or know how much toyota will flog me to fix it?

Generally the dealers will fix it up for nix. You have to take the rig in though, they wont give you the number over the phone.

The dealers " should " have it in their computer system unless it has been changed and not registered like the Yaris we hired in Perth. The hire mob had to give us another car as the dash had to be pulled out to find the serial number of the radio.

ford puts the code in the back of the service manual

Ford charged the old man 10 bucks to look the code up on the computer bloody rip off i think but you should get it for around 10 dollars good luck?

Had same problem with Nissan, took in the original sales order showing I was the legit owner of not only the stereo but the whole car that was screwed to it and they did it for free.

Yep, first question when I buy an aftermarket stereo, does it have a lock feature, if the answers yes, I just keep looking.

Not like anyone is going to want to bother to steal my $120 stereo! (which is usually better quality than the "locked" ones that come OEM anyway)

the missus phoned 2 ford deallers the 2nd gave it to her over the phone all she needed was the vin number

I've gone to ford and all they wanted was to see the rego slip. but as faulked says it may pay to give a few dealerships a call it may save a trip to the dealer
