Maroon Dam - back in 1 piece!

Hi all

Quick report of our Maroon trip. Picked up a canoe from Roscos on the morning of NYE and had a leisurely drive down to the lake. No fishing the first day as it was too hot.

Got up reasonably early on New Years Day and fished for half the day for not a touch. Saw a few splashes on the surface every now and then but the weed made fishing pretty tough. Also saw about a dozen bass floating belly up in the water :( May have something to do with the water being green with algae?

Cooked a camp oven stew and had an early night in preparation for the next day. Storm set in at about 10pm and after a couple of hefty gusts of wind our tent and tarp both collapsed! We would've soldiered on except that our fly had torn and two of our tent poles had snapped. The decision was made to pack up and come home so Kreel valiantly packed up our gear in the pouring rain and we headed off.

Best part of it all is we now have an excuse to buy a bigger tent :P

For those that went on Winter Camp last year, here's a pic of what Camp Lake Fire looks like now.

So what sort of tent you looking at now? :P

We bought the Oztrail 4 person dome. I'm gonna try to fix up the busted one and look around for a 6 person one down the track.

Really disappointed the poles were made of crappy wood and that the tent has only lasted a month.

Wooden poles. usually they are some sort of composite.

like graphite fishing rods they will bend but do not take a direct hit to them. makes them brittle.

hey.. yeah I was up on NYE just beyond Maroon at a friends property. Ahh.... it was the right after Maroon Dam Rd where it turns into a dirt track, then beyond the waterfall up the mountain a little.

Was a great time but I was only there for a night. Missed the storm :)
