Spent a week recently at Iluka on the Clarence River.

Arrived on the Wednesday 4th may at 12.30 (Real time). After checking in spent the afternoon setting up the gear and the boat for a week of fishing and some well earned R&R.

I had arranged for “Scrote†(Scott) from NCF to call and come over for a beer or 2 and organise a trip for the next day. We arranged to meet at his place, and what a nice spot he has on the bank of the Clarence, he took us out in his boat to “Browns Rocksâ€. This spot had been firing well with good Bream and small Jewies.

This was a first for Glenda to use “Light Gear†and SPs, supplied by Scott, It didn’t take long and Glenda was on to a nice Jew at around the 40cm mark. Scott was bringing them in also along with some nice Bream. I was on the board after the 3 drift with a small Bream using a “Vault 35†, Glenda kept getting Jewies (7in total and 1 Bream ) lost count of how many Scott got (3 Legal Bream anyway)and I ended up with 4 Bream (1 legal),kept 4 Bream for a feed. All of the Jew were just under NSW legal size but were great fun on light gear. After a great morning on the water a few happy snaps and a chat with Scott on where to fish the rest of the week we were on our way back to camp. It was great to meet you Scott and you have converted Glenda to SPs. We spent that afternoon in our boat and set out some crab pots, fished a few spots for some just undersized Flatties.

The next day we went out early to run the pots, picked up some Sandies, Off the water and caught the Ferry over to Yamba for a day trip. Dropped a couple of $$$$ and Stocked up on more SPs from Yamba Bait & Tackle. Went for a flick that night around the trawlers out front of the Co-op (straight across the road from our unit). Heaps of hit from Bream and Tailor but NO hook ups. Spent the next couple of mornings drifting the Walls and sand flats catching heaps of Lizards varying in size from 10cm to 60cm and a few unstopperable “Crocsâ€. Went for a trip into Grafton (needed more SPs) and a few other things, had a good look around. On the way back called into Scott’s place and brought Glenda a new “G-Loomis†rod that he had for sale.

Sunday morning saw us drifting the rock walls again where Glenda christened her new rod with a 50cm lizard, followed by another just a tad smaller. Several Bream, Jewies and Flatties were also landed by the 2 of us. As the wind was picking up a bit (from the Cyclone up the coast) we decided to spend the next few days up the river drifting the weed beds, Several good fish were caught and a few better ones lost. Picked up enough Sandies every day for a good and kept 2 Flatties per day for a feed. Every other fish was released to fight another day. No stinkies were used, all caught on SPs or HBs.

We were blessed with great wether, Good company (from Scott) and an endless supply of fun from our watery friends.

Pics to follow, after download and resize.
